I’m Dale Lawrence, and my family has run Lawrence & Family Movers out of Martinsburg since 2009. Before that I ran a local hauling and warehouse outfit here in the Panhandle, and I started this company with my two sons on one rule we have never bent: the flat price goes in writing before the truck rolls. Local moving around the Eastern Panhandle is the bread and butter of what we do, and it is where that rule earns its keep.
From a historic downtown Martinsburg Victorian to a farmhouse out on a gravel lane, our family moving crew writes the whole job as one flat number up front and holds it — no surprise lines once the truck is loaded.
We move the Panhandle the way it’s actually built
This isn’t a town of identical floor plans. Downtown Martinsburg has Victorian and brick homes with original stairs and narrow doorways. The new commuter subdivisions out in Spring Mills, Inwood and Hedgesville are full of families landing here from the DC and Baltimore side. And once you get past the city line you’re into farmhouses on acreage, foothill properties with long gravel lanes, and Shepherd University rentals over in Shepherdstown. My crew knows every one of those, so the number I hand you already accounts for your stairs, your driveway and your carry.
Four seasons, one careful crew
We work humid summers, mud season, and the real winters that come off the Blue Ridge. My men lay protection against mud, snow and salt before a single box moves, and they handle the steep lanes and gravel that come with country properties out here. Travis and Cole grew up doing this work, and Hector runs the farmhouse-and-stairs jobs.
What a local move runs
You get one binding flat rate signed before we load. The two tiers below are the labor baseline I build that number from, with a couple of typical Panhandle examples.
| Crew | Hourly basis | Typical Panhandle move |
|---|---|---|
| 2 men + truck | $135/hr | 1-bed Shepherd University rental: about $565 flat |
| 3 men + truck | $185/hr | 3-bed Spring Mills home, gravel lane: about $1,340 flat |
