One flat figure on paper, no hourly meter — roughly a minute to start.

Anything you share is used only to price your move — never sold, never spammed.

I’m Dale Lawrence. I grew up here in the Eastern Panhandle, and I started Lawrence & Family Movers with my two sons in 2009 to do whole-home moves the honest way: one flat price for the whole house, written before the truck rolls. A house move is the biggest one most families ever do, and it’s where an hourly meter does the most damage, so we take that meter off the table.

From a historic downtown Martinsburg Victorian to a farmhouse out on a gravel lane, our Panhandle family crew writes the whole job as one flat number up front and holds it — no surprise lines once the truck is loaded.

Every kind of Panhandle home

We move all of it. The brick Victorians and old downtown homes in historic Martinsburg with their narrow original stairs. The new commuter subdivisions in Spring Mills, Inwood and Hedgesville built for families coming over from the DC and Baltimore side. And out past the city line, the farmhouses on acreage and foothill homes across Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan counties, where the driveway turns to gravel, the lane runs long, and there’s usually a barn or shed to empty on top of the house itself. I match the crew size to whatever the property throws at us.

Protection first, every season

Nothing leaves a room until the floors are covered. My men roll out heavy runners against the mud, snow and road salt the four seasons hand us, and they pad the banisters and door frames first. We strip furniture down, wrap it in quilted pads, and put it back together at the destination, all with the same crew. The gun safes, hutches and oversized pieces get routed to my son Travis and his specialty team.

What a whole-home move runs

The binding flat rate gets written once I’ve walked the place. The two tiers here are only the labor starting point underneath that number.

Crew Hourly basis Typical whole-home flat rate
2 men + truck $135/hr 2-bed Inwood ranch: about $910 flat
3 men + truck $185/hr 4-bed Hedgesville farmhouse with barn: about $2,280 flat
  • Beds, dressers, tables and safes disassembled and reassembled at no extra charge
  • Released value $0.60 per pound standard, full-value protection optional
  • Up to $1,000,000 cargo coverage per shipment

Service Questions

Can you handle a farmhouse on acreage with outbuildings and a long lane?
Farmhouse jobs are a steady part of our week. Country places around Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan counties tend to come with a long gravel lane, a deep porch carry, a barn or shed packed with furniture, and a staircase nobody designed for a sofa. For those I bring a bigger team, put Hector on the access, and fold every bit of it into the flat rate up front.
Do you clear the attic, basement and garage, or just the main floors?
The whole house, top to bottom and outbuildings too if you want them. Panhandle homes carry a lot of life in the attic, the basement workshop and the garage, and a careless crew leaves that for you and acts surprised on move day. We walk all of it first so the flat rate is honest.
My downtown Martinsburg house has original floors and tight Victorian stairs. Will you protect them?
Yes. The hardwood and the staircase in an old town house can't be bought back once they're gouged, so before anything moves we cover the floors, wrap the banisters and door jambs, and bubble or shrink any piece with a corner that bites. That's exactly the kind of careful job my sons take themselves.
Will the same crew be at both houses?
Always. Whoever pad-wraps your dining table at the old house is who carries it through the door at the new one, in town or out in the county. A whole-home move never gets handed off to day labor at either end, and you'll know the men coming by name before the truck shows up.
